AAC Announces Skilled Nursing Model

As Advocates for Aging Care enters its third year of grassroots efforts to bring more skilled nursing care to Champaign County, we are eager to share significant updates with our 575 community advocates before they are made public. In addition to filing paperwork with the State, our dedicated group of volunteers has finalized both the skilled care model and the prospective facility location - two key milestones in increasing access to skilled care for residents of Champaign County.

The Cottages - A New Design for Skilled Care

Advocates for Aging Care has announced the type of senior living community they hope to bring to Champaign County: a small-home, cottage-style model inspired by the nationally recognized Green House® Cottages approach.

This innovative project will include 10 cottages, thoughtfully arranged within a neighborhood setting, complete with front yards and back patios. Each cottage will be home to just 12 residents, creating a close-knit environment that feels personal and truly residential.

Rather than large, institutional buildings, this model centers on intimate homes with private bedrooms and bathrooms and shared living spaces, including a kitchen. The design fosters comfort and familiarity while supporting meaningful relationships among residents and caregivers.

The approach prioritizes dignity, independence, and personal choice. Residents are empowered to maintain their daily routines, enjoy home-cooked meals, and engage in meaningful activities, all within a supportive and close-knit community. With consistent staffing and smaller groups, caregivers can provide more attentive, individualized support.

By focusing on connection, autonomy, and a true sense of home, Advocates for Aging Care aims to introduce a new standard of skilled care - one that enhances both care and quality of life for seniors in Champaign County.
